Man 62, allegedly defiles 10 year old step daughter

BY DAUD OLATUNJI
ABEOKUTA — A 10-year old girl (name withheld) has accused her 62-year-old step father  Mr. Alabi Ibrahim of habitually having carnal knowledge of  her.
The primary six pupil  disclosed this   Sunday, lamenting  that  she had  lost count  on number of times her step  father had intercourse with her at their residence at Opara Estate, Aiyetoro Road in Abeokuta.
Vanguard gathered that the act was revealed when the girl ignorantly  shared  her experience with  her siblings who then hinted her mother.
It was further learnt that the mother, Mrs. Adiat Ibrahim, subsequently reported her husband’s immorality to the police in Abeokuta.
Vanguard learnt that the suspect, however, bolted  when police detectives went after him in OnikolObo area.
Narrating her ordeal, the victim claimed that each time her step father had sex with her, he  usually  threatened to kill her  if she told anybody about it.
She said; “Daddy always came to me when Mummy was not at home, and warned me not to tell anybody, so that I wouldn’t die”.
When contacted, Ogun State Police  Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi  confirmed the incident.
He described the action of the man as  barbaric, promising that the police will thoroughly investigate the matter towards possibly charging the suspect to court for defilement.
“The police totally condemn the act. He will not be spared. The man will be charged to court, after a thorough investigation,” Adejobi assured.

IT IS FINISHED: Mob Action and Nigerians

Project Alert on Violence Against Women is indeed shocked at the seeming increase in occurrence of jungle justice and mob action amongst Nigerians for alleged perpetrators of crime. We are indeed very concerned that if this trend is not nipped in the bud, the consequences may be beyond our wildest imaginations (individually and collectively).

On Friday October 5, 2012, Nigerians were shocked to the marrow to see the video clips of our 4 young men (later identified to be students of University of Port Harcourt) were tortured like animals and set ablaze by a mob that descended on them as a result of what we now know to be a false alarm of them being thieves. Even if they stole, they did not deserve to be treated the way they were, by fellow human beings. It was the height of cannibalism and utter disregard for the rule of law. The lives of four promising young men got terminated for no reason.

While we are still trying to come to terms with this sordid experience, yet another video clip is making the rounds. In this video clip, a young lady who is accused of stealing a phone also, is surrounded by men, stripped naked, carried up, legs spread apart, while someone points a touch at her private part, while others pock every part of her naked body. VERY HORRIFIC VIDEO. We are outraged at this cruel and inhuman treatment of a fellow human being. IT IS FINISHED. How did we as Nigerians get to this point? Not even the lack of public confidence in the ability of the police to arrest and successfully investigate and prosecute suspects, justifies these mob actions. WE CAN NOT CONTINUE TO DEHUMANISE OURSELVES AND WASTE HUMAN LIVES UNDER THE GUISE OF RIDDING SOCIETY OF CRIMINALS. Mob action and jungle justice are in themselves criminal acts that must be stopped urgently.

The country is falling apart, and degenerating into anarchy, and our leaders are watching. We are calling on the Lagos State Police Command, as a matter of urgency to investigate the torture, cruel and inhuman treatment meted on this young girl by fellow Nigerians. We cannot allow mob action and jungle justice to continue. It is not in the interest of any one, as we do not know who the next victim will be.

Yours Sincerely

Man arrested for throwing burning stove on wife

Another horror story. From PM News
A middle-aged man identified as Oladimeji Fowowe has been arrested by the police at Iju police station Station Red House, Lagos, for allegedly setting his wife on fire, when he threw a burning stove and hot water on her.
The suspect, who trailed his wife to Ijoko in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria where she had gone to assist her husband’s younger brother’s wife who had just put to bed a set of twins, was alleged to have committed the crime when his wife returned to Iju area of Ishaga, Lagos State from Ijoko
Speaking with P.M.NEWS on her hospital bed at Ogba, Lagos State, the victim, Mrs. Oluwakemi Fowowe, said she left her husband and father of her three children, when his trouble and that of his mother became unbearable for her.

“I was at the passage facing outside not knowing that my husband had sneaked through the back door and the next thing I heard was a loud noise as he threw both the burning stove and a pot of hot water on me.

“My body caught fire and I ran outside, shouting for help before people assisted me in putting out the fire. I became unconscious before I was rushed to the hospital, where the doctors battled to revive me. I want all well-meaning Nigerians to come to my aid as I have no one to help me,’’she moaned in pains

Oladimeji was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police at Iju Police Station, where he was detained but he was later granted bail.

His wife’s family said he should not be sent to jail because of the three children his wife had for him. But he was advised to take care of the victim.
However, the wife’s family decided to press charges against him when he failed to honour his side of the agreement, to take care of the victim. He allegedly abandoned her in the hospital.

Oladimeji, who had earlier told the police that his action was the handiwork of the devil, has gone underground to evade arrest. The victim is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to come to her aid as she requires about N400,000 for the treatment of the burns.

Watch ex-wives of Zaaki Adzay, Frank Edoho and other women share stories of domestic violence

In support of Peace One Day's Global Truce 2012 'Reducing Domestic Violence' Campaign and in celebration of Peace Day taking place on the 21st of September, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa is creating awareness of the human and emotional cost of domestic violence by launching a short Eliminate Domestic Violence documentary which voices the experiences of gender-based violence victims.

Given that over 50% of Nigerian women are abused by their husbands, this video represents a call for the complete eradication of gender-based violence and a milestone in the campaign to amplify public awareness of domestic violence and empower victims to voice their experiences without reproach. During the March 21st 2012 press launch of the Global Truce 2012 Campaign, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa Founder-President H.E Mrs. Toyin Saraki addressed both the problem of gender-based violence and its potential solutions. In keeping with its pledge to mobilize networks in support of Peace One Day's Global Truce 2012, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa has implemented various initiatives including the Peace Summit in Ilorin which promoted harmony, tolerance and conflict resolution through dialogue; the Walk Against Rape in Lagos which encouraged rape victims to speak out; and the Peace Prayer Outreach in Kwara State which enriched the lives of those in need and advocated for understanding between religions. These efforts all served to promote peace, non-violence and solidarity within Nigeria and more importantly advanced the vision of Peace One Day.

Man Blinds His Wife By Stabbing Her In The Eye And Upon Arrest, Blames It On ‘Satan’

Deann Igho married Sylvester barely a year ago and hoped to have a good marriage. Their affairs had started when she was a student at the University of Port Harcourt. Their love affair blossomed, and they agreed to get married.
However, Deann’s parents, siblings and relatives objected to her marrying Sylvester. Along the line, she got pregnant for Sylvester and her family didn’t have any choice but to grant her wish. She moved in to live with Sylvester. Last year, she gave birth to a baby boy. Deann is Sylvester’s third wife.
First, the man married about five years ago, and the marriage crashed after producing a child. He married again, but his second wife did not give him a child before they parted ways. He then married Deann.
Deann Igho (L) Immediately After She Was Allegedly Stabbed By Her Husband & In Hospital (R) After Treatment
The fight
Sylvester returned home after being away for two weeks. A quarrel had ensued between him and the wife in the evening. To Deann, the matter was settled, but her husband did not want to let go. At night, Sylvester woke his wife from sleep and demanded that they talked. His wife told him that whatever discussion there was had to wait till the morning, to avoid waking the baby, who had cough and catarrh. In a fit of anger, Sylvester stabbed her twice in the eye, locked the door and escaped.
Since their home on Ada George Road, a developing part of Port Harcourt, is isolated, neighbours could not hear Deann’s cries. Writhing in pains and on the verge of bleeding to death, she managed to call her siblings in , on phone. She also called her parents and Sylvester’s parents, who also live in . She also, in pains, captured her bleeding face with her Blackberry phone camera and sent them to those she called.
Her family contacted their friends in Port Harcourt, Mr & Mrs. Castro, who broke the door and took her out. She was then taken to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) for medical attention.
Nero Igho, Deann’s brother, who was in  when he got the distress call, says he called Sylvester several times, but the latter refused to pick his call.
After initial treatment, Nero took his sister to police area command, where the matter was reported. She was, thereafter, transferred to  State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where a team of three doctors confirmed that the eye was dead, after surgery. On his experience, Deann said: “Sylvester used a knife to remove one of my eyes and locked the door against me so that I will bleed to death.”
How Sylvester was arrested
After the attack, Sylvester moved over to Lagos and was lodging in a hotel. While in Lagos, he told those who called him on phone that he was in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The bubble burst when someone spotted him and told Deann’s family. Nero traced him to the hotel and fooled him into believing that there was no problem, as they saw the matter as one of trying times. He followed them home, where the police picked him up. The police said he would be transferred to Port Harcourt, where the crime was committed.
Sylvester’s plot to flee Nigeria
It was learnt that Sylvester actually planned to flee Nigeria, which was why he came to Lagos. He had made arrangements for an International passport, which he was waiting for before he was nabbed. While cooling off his heels at the Lagos state Police Command cell, Sylvester blamed Satan for his action. He denied stabbing his wife. According to him, the ceiling fan cut his wife’s eye.

Man rapes 8 children in Lagos

police in Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested a man who allegedly defiled eight children. He is now being detained, awaiting arraignment in court. The suspect, Mr. Temitope Alo was arrested on Saturday at Koloba area of Ayobo after the children allegedly confessed that he had raped them.
The eight victims, whose ages range from eight to 15 years were brought to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA yesterday by the Vice Chairman, Ipaja-Ayobo Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Alhaja Falilat Ajijola to enable the state government to take over the case.
The victim said he works for a newspaper company (name withheld) in Lagos and allegedly lured the children to his apartment where he defiled them and threatened to kill them if they reported the matter.
Tests conducted on the eight children at the Ayobo-Ipaja Primary Health Centre, PHC, showed that the children had been defiled.
A top official of the WAPA Ministry told P.M.NEWS that the ministry had been handling rape cases but they had never recorded a case where a man serially raped eight children.
The news of the rape caused a stir at the WAPA ministry as the staff rained curses on the alleged rapist.
According to the Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA Vice Chairman, Ajijola, last week a case of rape was reported to the Neighbourhood Watch office at the council but when enquiries were made, the traditional ruler of Koloba was said to have denied that such a thing happened in his area.
She said a few days later, the former council chairman of Ayobo-Ipaja, Bisi Yusuf reported that the incident actually happened and that further investigation traced the rape case to the culprit, who was promptly arrested.
Ajijola added that the traditional ruler, Chief Babayanju, later opened up and admitted that the story was true, while eight children came forward to report that they were allegedly raped by Alo.
The vice chairman said the children were taken to the PHC in the area where tests were conducted on them and it was confirmed that the children had been defiled.
Two children of a community leader in the area were among the victims.
Chairman, Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, Alhaji Shakiru Adisa Yusuf said he was shocked when he heard the story, adding that such a person is worse than an animal.
“I was shocked because I am also a parent. Why must he go after innocent children? Such people should not live in this community,” he said, adding that the council would pursue the case to ensure that justice was done.
“We will collect the tests conducted on the children and hand them over to the state government. We will pursue the case to a logical conclusion. This man has brought disgrace to this community,” he said.
Acting Director, Child Development, WAPA Ministry, Mrs Mosunmola Dada said the issue was disgusting, adding that such a man must be a paedophile and vowed that the government would ensure that he was prosecuted.
“We have evidences against him. The Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA has a medical report on this case. We will monitor and follow up this case,” she said.
The suspect, in his statement at the Ayobo Police Station, was said to have admitted that he raped some children, but that he only raped four and not eight.
P.M.NEWS could not get to him as he was in custody of the police, while the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of the station was not around for comments.
One of the victims, an eight years old girl (name withheld) told P.M.NEWS that the suspect told them to help him arrange newspapers in his apartment, adding that, “after that, he told us to go into the next room.
“He asked us to remove our panties and I asked him what he wanted to do to us. He laid me on the bed and defiled me four times. He covered our mouths with white handkerchief and threatened to kill us if we report,” she said.
Another victim, a 12 years old girl (name withheld) alleged that the suspect “licked my private part. He called me and my friend in. He asked me to bring N100 fufu for him, which I brought. While I was waiting for the money with my friend, he asked my friend whether she could keep a secret.
“He asked me to pull off my panties but I did not answer and he forced me and licked my private part while he slept with my friend and defiled her too. He gave us N50. I told my friend that I will tell my mummy, but he threatened to kill us if we told anybody.”
