TEACHER WHO DEFILED MINORS SAYS: One of them made passes at me

IBADAN — The nursery school teacher, Mr. Olayinka Oluwadare Folarin, who allegedly defiled three under‑aged pupils in a toilet, yesterday, said it was one of the girls that made advances at him.

Folarin, aged 38, who claimed his illicit romance with the minors was a demonic attack which had been affecting him for a long time, said: “One of them made advances at me. You know how children play with you in a funny way. This thing is beyond me.”
Folarin

Folarin

This came as he challenged policemen and newsmen interviewing him to throw the first stone at him if they had not sinned before. He was being detained at Iyaganku, Ibadan.

Though he showed remorse for being involved in the act, he intermittently flared up, saying nobody is beyond demonic attack.

Calls for help

He said: “I have been doing this for a long time. I feel terribly bad each time I did it but I could not stop it. Why don’t you find a way of helping me. Is this meant to expose me?

“Some people should just think and reason with me. The person who has not sinned before should cast the first stone. If God did not forsake some people, I know he would not forsake me. I am a changed person now.”

Method of operation

Tearfully, he recalled how he invited the girls into the toilet and put them in the wash hand basin in the toilet and then fondled their private parts.

He confessed that he always used his hair cream to lubricate them. However, he denied using his manhood to penetrate any of the girls.

When asked why his claims contradicted the medical report which revealed that the hymen of the girls was not intact, he said it might have been broken elsewhere.

“I never penetrated them. I only used my manhood to rub their private parts. Yes, I used my hair cream to lubricate my organ to stimulate myself.”

He lamented that since the incident happened, the school management had sacked and abandoned him, noting: “When the attack started, I called them.”

Though, he reportedly wrote in his statement that he used to abuse them on Saturdays, he said it was once a while.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olabisi Okuwobi‑Ilobanafor said: “The suspect had engaged in multiple defilement and all the victims said the same thing that he always abused them twice a week since last year. The third girl was lured by the suspect to cover his illicit affairs.

“The third girl he abused saw a note he wrote to one of the two girls when she was sweeping the floor and asked what was happening. The teacher then collected the paper; for fear of being exposed, he recruited her into the group.

She said the case would be transferred to the state Police headquarters because of its seriousness.

9 Fulani herdsmen gang-rape 15-yr-old girl, 2 housewives

MAKURDI — No fewer than nine suspected Fulani herdsmen, yesterday, allegedly gang-raped a 15-year-old girl and two housewives (names withheld) at gunpoint, in Tse Ikyuer, Yandev, Mbagwen in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

Two of the victims, who narrated their ordeal to Vanguard in Makurdi, the state capital, said after beating and raping them, the herdsmen also made away with their N60,000 and two phones.

According to the women, who could barely walk, “one of us (the teenage girl) was raped repeatedly, after being thoroughly beaten by the herdsmen. At the moment, she is neither able to walk nor talk.”

Before they were taken to an undisclosed hospital in Makurdi for medical attention by the Police, the women, who spoke at intervals, said: “The men with their leader came to our home in the afternoon and pleaded that we give them water to drink.

“We obliged them, but they noticed the absence of our husbands, and when their leader asked of our husband’s whereabouts, we innocently told him that they travelled but would be back much later.

“After drinking the water, they left, only for about nine of them to come back later in the day, armed with guns and machetes and asked us to lie down and have sex with them or they will kill everybody.”

The women who wept profusely, explained that four of the armed herdsmen fired shots in the air to terrify and also compel them to submit to their demands.

She said: “After defiling us, they beat us mercilessly and collected over N60,000 from us and also took away our handsets.”

The women said that the leader of the gang was well known in the community but he fled from the area with his family and cattle shortly after the incident.

Vanguard gathered from a Police source that one of the suspects had been arrested while the hunt for the leader of the gang and seven others had begun.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Superintendent (SP) Daniel Ezeala, who confirmed the incident, said investigations into the matter had commenced.

2 Customs Officers Gang-rape Woman

The Lagos State Police Command is investigating the case of gang-rape involving two officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in the metropolis, LEADERSHIP has reliably gathered.
The NCS officers, identified as Felola Uzezi and Sanni were alleged to have gang-raped a 23-year-old woman.

Confirming the incident, the national public relations officer of the NCS, Mr. Wale Adeniyi said he was aware of the case but said details of the incident were still sketchy. He also confirmed that the Seme Command Comptroller had been notified.

A police source at the Area ‘K’ Morogbo police command disclosed that the victim met one of the customs officers identified as Felola on facebook and she had agreed to visit him when he invited her but the visit turned sour as her facebook friend, Felola and his colleague, Sanni allegedly raped her.

The source said the suspects had been arrested by policemen at the area command, adding that the two men said to behave been attached to the Gbaji Customs checkpoint allegedly carried out the illegal act at Limca Bus Stop area, along Badagry Expressway, where Felola Uzezi resides.

The victim alleged that, “The two friends raped me one after the other. I believed Felola is a gentleman but unfortunately he is a devil. I met Felola on Facebook and we later became friends. One day he invited me to his house and Felola invited his friend, Sanni over, where they raped me.

“Felola demanded for sex from me but I told him that I was menstruating. When his friend Sanni came into the apartment, they raped me.”

The police source said the police had visited the scene of the crime where they allegedly found blood stains on Felola’s bed as the victim was menstruating when the illegal act was committed. The police also saw a knicker he gave the victim to clean herself after the dastardly act.

Help comes way of girl shot by sister’s lover

Do you remember Blessing Isabor? Many Lagos residents probably might have forgotten the story of the 19-year-old girl, who was shot at close range by her 31-year-old police sister’s lover on February 10, 2012.
The incident happened at their Bariga residence. Emmanuel Okujo, who was a corporal at the time of the incident, allegedly shot Blessing for going against his relationship with her then 17-year-old sister, Patience.
According to the report, Blessing was reported to have always expressed displeasure at the amorous relationship between her sister and Emmanuel on the ground that she was still young to go into any serious relationship and should have instead, focused on her education since their father was no longer alive to assist their mother in their upkeep.
Unknowingly to her, Patience was always informing her lover of her sister’s disapproval of their relationship, which Emmanuel did not take lightly.
On the day of the incident, Emmanuel allegedly stormed the residence of the sisters and shot Blessing at close range. Luckily for her, the bullets pierced through her mouth and left side of her face, thereby disfiguring her face.
Emmanuel, who was attached to Ifako Police Station, was reported to have absconded with Patience but the arm of the law eventually caught up with him. He is presently remanded at Kirikiri prison and is facing charge of attempted murder before a Lagos High Court, Ikeja.
Blessing spent five months at the Lagos State University Hospital with the hope that surgery would be carried out on the face. According to medical report, she needed over N300,000 for the surgery to be carried out.
A non-governmental organisation, Project Alert On Violence Against Women,   took up her case and began to solicit for funds for her.
Help finally came her way last week when one of the ambassadors of the NGO and Nollywood star, Kate Henshaw, donated 50 per cent of the needed money for her surgery. Other sympathisers also came to her aid and contributed the remaining part of her money.
At the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) before she went for the surgery on Friday, an elated Blessing told Sunday Newswatch that she was grateful to the organisation and her donor, especially Kate Henshaw for coming to her aid.
“God will continue to bless them (donors). I am happy that help has finally come,” she said.
She was sad that her only sister colluded with the accused, to allegedly kill her. She was also sad that the Nigerian police abandoned her and lamented the current corrupt practices in the country. She lamented that her education was disrupted by the incident, but said she had forgiven those involved in her plight.
“The incident won’t affect the way I see policemen because not all of them have the same character. The police have not done anything for me and did not show any concern. The country is corrupt. Since the incident happened, it is by God’s grace I have been surviving. My education has stopped but I hope to bounce back once I am healed. I thank Project Alert and Kate Henshaw for the help and concern for me,” she sobbed.
Commenting on how the money was raised for her, the President of the NGO, Mrs Josephine Effah-Chukwuma, said: “We started to task ourselves on what we could do to help the girl so we started looking for friends that could help. At Project Alert, we have some celebrities working with us, so we approached them. Sometimes last year, at the recording of Screen Divas programme with Kate Henshaw, Uche Jombo, Rita Dominc and Funke Akindele, we brought out some of our cases to show them. I must commend them because each of them did not leave that recording without taking up a case. Kate took up Blessing Isabor and contributed 50 per cent of the money for the surgery. There is also another anonymous donor who does not want her name mentioned. I also want to thank the National Association of Women Judges under the leadership of Justice Binta Nyako. At the conference we had, when I brought up the issue, some of the judges there put together some money for Blessing. We want to thank all these people.”
These people have shown the commitment that it is more than the face and doing business and smiling to the bank. Kate has been passionate and committed to the issue. We have been involved in the case of Blessing since 2012. It has been a challenging journey and I thank God that today we are able to raise the money.
In her comment, Kate Henshaw lamented the increase in violence against women in Nigeria.
“I would not want to castigate all policemen with reference to this case, but I feel it could have been handled well because it involved life and every life is important. The slogan is ‘police is your friend’ and the police should have been more friendly and make sure justice is carried out knowing full well it was one of their own  that did this damage to this girl. Thank God she is alive and her eyes are opened, but she could have been dead. They are supposed to protect not cause injuries to people.
She added: “I am a woman and was once a young lady like herself but now, I have all opportunity to do the best I can do. I identify with her and I am also one of the ambassadors for Project Alert on Violence Against Women. I took interest in her and I felt she didn’t deserve to be here (hospital) because she didn’t do anything wrong.
On violence against women, she said: “Women are the cause of problems facing women. Her sister, who is the cause of this problem, has not even visited her for once and is still in the house of the policeman who shot her blood sister, carrying his baby. That goes to show that sometimes, families are not the best. Women need to learn to support each other in everything. It might be politics or personal life; women should come to each other’s aid. They need to stand together more. My advice for anyone who is going through this problem is that if you are in a violent relationship, leave because of your life; it is only one who has life that can make plans for tomorrow.
Her uncle, Steven Isabor, told Sunday Newswatch that after the incident, he began to receive threats to his life by some unknown individuals.
“I thank God that she is alive today because at the beginning, we didn’t believe she could survive it. She spent about five months at LASUTH before she was finally discharged in May 2012. He (accused) ran away though it was like some people were trying to shield him but he was eventually arrested and charged to court. He was charged for attempted murder and was released on bail of N100,000 and two sureties at Ikeja Magistrates court.
“I wrote to the Lagos State Government and Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) and Project Alert that they should come to our aid that I was not convinced we were going to get justice. The case was later withdrawn from Magistrates court to DPP and taken to High Court where the bail was revoked last year. He is now at Kirikiri Maximum Prison and the case is still in court.
“Till today, I have never seen Patience, the younger sister, who caused the incident. A week before the incident, Blessing was not in Lagos and Patience was calling her to come back to Lagos. It seemed Patience had colluded with Emmanuel to kill Blessing so that he could have the opportunity to marry her.
“Their father is late and the mother has been trying to train the children. So Emmanuel saw that as an opportunity to deal with Blessing with the thought that they had no family that could defend them, he saw them as helpless children,” Isabor stated.

Girl shot by policeman goes for surgery

Effa-Chukwuma, Blessing and Henshaw on Thursday

The fate of 24-year-old Blessing Isabor is now hanging in the balance as she was taken to the Female Surgical Ward of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Thursday for surgery.
Two years ago, the Edo state indigene was shot twice in the face by a police sergeant, Emmanuel Okujo. Blessing’s offence was that she allegedly prevented the policeman from dating her 17-year-old sister, Patience.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Okujo, who was attached to the Ifako Gbagada Police Division, shot Blessing with a police service gun at close range while on a visit to Patience at their residence on Ifateludo Street, Ifako Gbagada.
It was learnt that after the act, Okujo eloped with Patience and got her pregnant.
Although the suspect had since been arrested and dismissed from the police force and is currently standing trial at an Ikeja Magistrate’s court on one count of attempted murder, the Nigeria Police Force have been accused of abandoning the victim.
Uncle to the victim, Stephen Isabor, told our correspondent that he had faced threats to his life in the course of pursuing justice for his niece.
Stephen said, “I thank God that she made it because we thought she might die. What Emmanuel planned was to kill her so he could marry her sister. She spent about five months in the hospital after the incident.
“The police were even trying to shield the officer that fired her and I had to involve some human rights organisations.
“At a time, I was threatened and the divisional police officer of the station arranged some policemen to arrest me after I granted a press interview.
“After I wrote the Inspector General of Police, the Lagos State governor and some other people, the matter was transferred to Ikeja, and the man was arraigned in court. He was however released on bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties by Senior Magistrate J.A. Anabor.
“When I saw the way they were treating the case, I wrote Governor Babatunde Fashola again and the Director of Public Prosecutions, and asked them to come to my aid. The case was then taken from the magistrate and the policeman’s bail was revoked and he was returned to the Kirikiri Prison.”
Our correspondent learnt that for two years, Blessing could not continue her secondary school education. She was in SSS 3 when she was attacked.

Her sister was said to have delivered a baby for the suspect.

A woman rights group, Project Alert on Violence Against Women, which took up the matter with the support of popular artiste, Kate Henshaw, said the police did not clean the mess created by one of its former officer.

The founder of Project Alert, Mrs. Josephine Effa-Chukwuma, said, “This is a young girl who almost died after a shot to her face damaged her jaw. And the offence was committed by a serving police officer, so the police should be the one taking care of her treatment, but nobody did. We had to start calling friends and celebrities to help us. Kate Henshaw has been most generous. The National Association of Women Judges also put some money together to help Blessing.”

Effa-Chukwuma said about N300, 000 had been spent, without the police contributing a penny.
Kate Henshaw, who was also at LASUTH on Thursday to see off the victim to the surgery ward, encouraged young ladies to stay off relationships characterised by violence.

Henshaw said the police did not live up to its name, adding, “If the slogan is police is your friend, then they should have been more friendly and know that every life is important.”

The victim told our correspondent on the hospital bed that she had forgiven her sister and the police.
Blessing said, “I have forgiven her. And I cannot say because a policeman shot me, then I should use that to judge every other policeman. I just don’t understand why the police would not do anything about my situation.”

Mother Narrates how pastor raped her daughter

Abuja – The mother of one of the girls allegedly raped by Emmanuel Matthew, a pastor, told an FCT High Court on Friday that the accused used a white bedspread and red curtain to rape her daughter.

Mathew, 52, who is the General Overseer of The Choice Bible Church, Mpape, Abuja, and proprietor of the primary school where his alleged victims attended, was arraigned on a six-count charge.

At the continuation of trial, Mrs Jacintha Ejiofor told the court that her daughter was molested by the pastor in his bedroom on March 12, 2012.

While being cross-examined by Mr Ejike Orji, a lawyer from the Attorney- General’s office, the mother said her child, one of the pupils in the accused’s school, was lured into his bedroom for unknown reasons.

She said: “My daughter told me that the pastor laid a white bedspread and a red curtain after which the accused inserted his finger into her private part, then used his manhood afterwards.”

Ejiofor said one of the alleged victims’ mother, had earlier confronted the accused with her pastor on the same allegation but the accused asked them to come back the next day for discussion and settlement.

She said the other woman and her pastor went back as arranged but were arrested by the police, following a complaint made by the accused at Mpape Police Station.

Ejiofor further told the court that on her way to see the accused person concerning what her daughter told her she discovered that he was not in the school premises with his wife.

She said that few moments later, she and her daughter were arrested by two policemen from Mpape Police Station accompanied by the accused wife.

She said that on getting to the police station, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)interrogated her daughter.

“My daughter narrated all she had told me to the police, then the police asked the three girls to describe the accused bedroom and they mentioned seven items.

“When the police got to the accused house he confirmed five items but the white bedspread and the red curtain mentioned by the girls were missing,” she said.

She added that the DPO asked that they all go to the Asokoro General Hospital for medical examination of the victims and the accused.

According to her, the hospital confirmed that the girls were no longer virgins.

The police prosecutor, DSP Stanley Nwodo, had earlier told the court that the accused raped two seven-year-olds and a nine-year-old pupil on different occasions in his (pastor’s) school.

The offence, Nwodo said contravened the provisions of Section 283 of the Penal Code.

According to the law, a convict is liable to 14 years imprisonment or with an option of fine, or both.

However, Mathew pleaded not guilty to the five-count charge.

He was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 and a surety in like sum. (NAN)

Group petitions AIG over Egyptian’s assault on wife

A human rights group, Project Alert on Violence against Women, has petitioned the Lagos State Assistant Inspector General of Police, over an Egyptian’s alleged assault on his Nigerian wife.
The petition, dated May 5, 2014, stated that Mrs. Mufida Ozoglu of Jos, Plateau State, got married to an Egyptian, Mr. Muhammed Abd El Hfiz in 2011.
The union, which was blessed with a child, was said to be marred with incessant domestic violence, assaults and threats to life.
Matters, however, came to a head when Abd El Hfiz allegedly sent his Nigerian wife packing from their house on Abike Sulaiman Street, Lekki Phase 2, Lagos, saying that he wanted to take his child with him to Egypt.
The petition, which was signed by the group’s lawyer, Benjamin Odeh, read in part, “Mr. Abd El Hfiz has assaulted our client on several occasions.
“The suspect in this case has an ungovernable temper and has boasted to Ozoglu that with his connections in Nigeria, he would frustrate her.”
PUNCH Metro got in touch with the victim on Thursday, and she explained that her husband had sent her out of the house.
Ozoglu, who said she was currently putting up at a friend’s house, said the last time she visited her one-year-old child, Abd El Hfiz asked her to renounce her baby.
She said, “Although we have been together for about two years, we had our court wedding a year ago. I have not been able to see his family members because he kept making excuses. He can be very violent. He doesn’t allow me to make friends.
“At a time, he burnt my hand. But when I reported him at the Maroko Police Station and he was invited by the police, he refused to show up. The matter was later resolved.
“The climax of everything was penultimate Saturday, when he suddenly barged into my boutique at Lekki, and asked why I went to see off my brother’s ex-girlfriend, who had come to the market to buy things.
“He locked up my shop, took my car key, and sent the salesgirl away. He said I should just walk out of the marriage the way I came. I walked down the street with just my clothes and handbag.”
She said Abd El Hfiz employed the service of a nanny, who began taking care of her child, but allowed her to visit him.
“On the last day I went with my brother, when he came back from work and saw me, he held us hostage for about two hours and said I should write a statement that I am no longer the mother of my child. I refused and said it will be over my dead body that that will happen,” she added.
Ozoglu said she only wanted her child, adding that she was done with the union.
Project alert, in its petition, asked the AIG to intervene and investigate the case, saying, “…if this atrocity was committed in his country by a Nigerian, the punishment is life imprisonment by the Egyptian authorities. The situation where the rights of women are being handled with trivialities must be discouraged.”
When our correspondent contacted Abd El Hfiz on the telephone, he denied the allegations.
He said, “The allegations are false. I am a responsible man and I work in a big organisation, so I will not do anything to spoil my name. I gave my wife everything she needed – a good house, car and shop.
“But her problem is that she keeps company with bad people. If she has problems, she doesn’t go to her family members, she only runs to her bad friends. She doesn’t have a good attitude to life. The child you talked about is in the house and I have given her the free hand to visit him anytime she liked. If I wanted to take my child to Egypt, I would have done that a long time ago.”
When asked about the assault and threat to life, he said, “I have never beaten her before, my friend, I am an old man, I am an Egyptian. I can invite you to the house and even make you speak with her family members. She is the one who has problems.”

Dramatic images of Chibok girls who escaped from Boko Haram

SaharaReporters has obtained photos of some of the girls who managed to escape from Boko Haram men after they were kidnapped (pictured above with their mothers/relatives) with many of them weeping as they publicly re-tell the horrors of the late night raid on April 14th.

The photos were taken in front of the Government Girls’ Secondary School, in Chibok according to SR, with the remains of the burned out building seen in the background. These images tell a dramatic story of a tiny, and isolated village, Chibok, that the world has now come to know as the site of a mass and disturbing kidnapping. See more photos after the cut...

Suspected rapist drugs, attacks pupil inside bush

A suspected rapist in Osun state drugged and attacked a 15 year old secondary school student of Young Tajudeen Middle School, Ede, Osun for supposedly refusing him sex, Punch reports.

According to reports, on Wednesday April 30th, the victim who lived with her grandmother, had gone to the bush to pick mangoes when she was accosted by the alleged rapist who begged her for some mangoes. She said she obliged him but afterwards the man demanded for sex which refused. She said the man immediately forced a pill into her mouth which made her unconscious. By the time she woke up, there were machete cuts on her head, legs and wrist.

Explaining what happened, the girl said
"I went to the farm to pick mangoes on the day I was attacked. As I was heading for home, I met a man who asked me to give him some mangoes and I did. The man asked me of my name and I told him my name is Suweba, but my real name is (withheld). The man later said  he wanted to have sex with me, but I told him I was too young for that. The man threatened to cut off my head if I didn’t oblige him. He held my head, forced my mouth open and dropped a white pill inside my mouth. I fell down and I became unconscious. I was attacked around 2pm and I woke up when it was getting dark maybe around 7pm. I managed to crawl to the footpath and shouted for help, but none came until the following morning.” she said

Passersby the next morning found the girl on the pathway and then immediately rushed her to the hospital where it was discovered that the wounds she sustained had already started decaying with maggots coming out from it.

Hospital staff, who described the attack as callous, believe the girl could have been attacked 48 hours before she was brought into the hospital and not the previous day as she said because of the maggot  infested wound.

Hospital staff say they would conduct test on her to ascertain if she was truly raped.

The Pakistani schoolgirl who made a heroic recovery after being shot in the head by Taliban because she stood up for education, Malala Yousafzai, has shown support for missing Chibok girls. Speaking with CNN, the 16 year old Nobel Peace nominee said "I think they haven’t studied Islam yet, they haven’t studied Quran yet, and they should go and they should learn Islam. Islam means peace. I think that they should think of these girls as their own sisters. How can one imprison his own sisters and treat them in such a bad way?"

Super model Naomi Campbell also lent her support.

...and Michelle Obama lends her support

We thank the international community for being interested in this case, especially CNN. CNN has been all about Nigeria and this case for the last few days! It has made our government sit up and act...albeit three weeks after the kidnap.
