Lagos - A 40-year-old barbecue vendor, Abubakar Bala, was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Tuesday over an alleged defilement of two underage girls.
Bala, who resides at No. 10, Ahmed Tinubu Road, Bogije area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement of two children.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused committed the offence at 2.00 p.m. on May 15 at Baba Adisa village, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
He said that Bala had unlawfully defiled the two girls, aged 10 years old.
The prosecutor said the accused had threatened his victims with a knife during the assault and warned them not to inform their parents.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
Section 137 states that “any person who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of felony and liable to life imprisonment’’.
The accused, however, denied the charge.
The magistrate, Miss Mulikat Ali-Balogun, granted the accused bail in the sum of three million Naira with two sureties in like sum.
Ali-Balogun adjourned the case till June 13 for mention. (NAN)
