Rape: Police Arrest Motorcyclist For Defiling Girl, 12

The police in Ughelli ‘A’ Division, Delta State, have arrested a 32-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Joseph Otobor for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in the area.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the suspect on Tuesday evening abducted the girl from Uwherun village in Ughelli North local government area of the state and conveyed her on his motorcycle to his house around Unenvrhe, a neighbouring community where he allegedly had carnal knowledge of her.

Sources in the village said the suspect after allegedly raping the girl took her back to her village and convinced her to have a bath to avoid suspicion, but on getting home, her agitated family members who had spent several hours searching for her insisted that she told them where she was coming from and she narrated her ordeal with the motorcyclist.

The victim’s family members were said to have mobilised to go to the suspect’s village and when he got wind of their coming, he made to escape but was prevented by the police.

Public relations officer of the state police command, DSP Celestina Kalu who confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect had confessed to the crime but insisted that he had been dating the victim for about two years before the bubble burst, adding that medical report of the incident is being awaited.
