An Ile-Ife Magistrates Court in Osun State yesterday remanded one
Damilare Oladoja, 25, in prison for allegedly raping an eight-year-old
girl.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Christian Babatunde, told the court that the
accused committed the offence on April 8 at about 10.05 a.m. at Gbelekan
area of Ile-Ife.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Babatunde alleged that
the accused, who did not disclose his residential address, had
unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor.
He said the offence was contrary to Section 31 (1) of the Child
Rights Law of Osun , 2007 and punishable under Section 2 of the same
law.
Magistrate Michael Awe, however did not take the plea of the accused, but ordered that he should be remanded in Ile-Ife prison.
Awe also directed the defence counsel, Mr. Lekan Babatunde, to file a
formal application for his client’s bail. He later adjourned the case
till June 30 for hearing.
