The police Thursday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Justin Ikyem in a Makurdi Chief Magistrate’s Court, Benue State for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Gabriel Ebonyi told the court that, one Terhemen Ade reported the case at ‘E’ Division Police Station on September 19.
The complainant had told the court that Ikyem had allegedly lured the girl to his room when she went out to play with her friend in a neighbour’s house.
He claimed that the accused had lured the girl to his room and forcefully had canal knowledge of her after promising to settle her school fees.
Ebonyi said the accused was arrested in the course of investigating the case, which contravened section 284 of the penal code of Benue, 2004.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Dan Ogo, however, ordered that Ikyem be remanded at the Federal Prison, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to October 28, for further mention.
