CHILD RAPE | POLYGAMIST JAILED FIVE YEARS IN LAGOS | FOR RAPING THREE MINORS | AGED BETWEEN THREE AND FIVE

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Monday [Aug 13] sentenced a 45-year-old commercial motorcyclist and polygamist, Alabi Bakare, to five years imprisonment for raping three minors.

Magistrate A.O. Isaac, who handed the verdict, said the sentence would be without an option of fine.

He said since the convict had pleaded guilty to the offence, the court had no option than to sentence him as charged.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the convict, who was arraigned on August 8, had pleaded guilty to a charge of having carnal knowledge of the minors aged between three and five.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Barth Nwaokoye, told the court that Bakare raped the minors on August 3 at 7pm at 19, Oluwakemi Street, Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos Metropolis.

“Bakare was caught in the act by a co-tenant, who reported the matter to the police”,he said.

He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
