OSOGBO — Osun State police command has disclosed that no fewer than 78 rape and 70 robbery suspects were arrested by the command in year 2013.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Dorothy Gimba stated this while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command last year.
Meanwhile, the command has apprehended a graduate of Computer Science and Engineering, Olawale Peters (34) and four others for allegedly stealing 28 laptops, eight digital cameras, phones and other computer accessories valued at over N6 million.
The suspects were said to have stolen the gadgets at a computer accessories shop in Osogbo.
The suspects, according to the Police Commissioner committed the offence on December 23, 2013.
Other members of the robbery gang include Olaiya Saheed (23), Sunday Job (27), Ajagbe Babatunde (25) and Adedeji Musibau (24).
On the review of the activities of the command, Gimba said 26 murder suspects, 17 cultists and two kidnappers were arrested while two kidnapped victims were rescued and 45 arms, 52 ammunition were recovered during the year under review.
She said 62 vehicles and 64 motorcycles were also recovered while 90 suspects were convicted and another 99 standing trial in various courts in the state.
The commissioner of police noted that the command carried out diligent investigations of all cases and employed prompt responses strategies in achieving the feat recorded in 2013.
She explained that the command with the help of the state government and other security agencies restored orderliness and peace to the crisis ridden communities of Oba-Oke and Oba-Ile in Olorunda Local Government Council of the state as well as Ido-Oshun and Ede.
