An Ilorin Magistrate’s Court has remanded two persons, Tajudeen
Saadudeen, 28 (aka Reyes) and Olasunkanmi Mojeed, 24, both of Agbede
area, Ilorin over their alleged involvement in cases of rape and
criminal activities at the Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The suspects were charged to court on a five-count charge of criminal
conspiracy, criminal intimidation, being in possession of criminal
charms, disturbance of public peace and being members of a secret cult.
The offences contravene sections 97, 397, 217 and 113 of the Penal
Code Law and section 11(1) of Secret Cult And Secret Society In
Educational Institution (Prohibition) Law 2004 of Kwara State.
According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the accused
and others now at large are members of the Eiye confraternity who
commandeer innocent female students of the Kwara State Polytechnic
through intimidation with guns and other dangerous weapons to have
carnal knowledge of them.
The FIR added that the police arrested the accused at Agbede/Lalolo
area of the polytechnic based on information and a search conducted in
the residence of Mojeed led to the recovery of assorted criminal charms
and different kinds of handsets and laptop computers.
It added that the accused and others now at large used a locally made
pistol to gang rape a female student on March 2, 2014 and Mojeed’s
residence is the rendezvous of the Eiye secret cult where innocent and
defenseless female victims of the institution were raped.
The police prosecutor, Lukman Adenigbe objected to the bail of the
accused, arguing that cases of rape and cultism are rampant in the
society and that investigation into the case is still ongoing.
Counsel to the accused, Tunde Olumo, urged the court to grant them bail in line with section 36(5).
