BENIN — THE Police in Edo State, yesterday, paraded 50 suspects arrested in connection with robbery, cultism, rape, illegal possession of firearms and defilement.
Also in Ibadan, nine robbery suspects were paraded yesterday by the Oyo State Police Command.
This came as the police said they had commenced full investigation into the robbery attack on a church, Vine Branch Church, where two policemen were shot dead, Sunday.
Edo Commissioner of Police, CP Foluso Adebanjo, who paraded the suspects in Benin also disclosed the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with cult related killings in the state.
While decrying the media sensational reports of cult killings in the state, he insisted that contrary to the high figure of deaths published by a section of the media, only three deaths were known to the police.
The police boss expressed worry over rising incidences of child molestation and rape, calling for concerted action against the trend.
He said: “We must all take action against rising cases of child molestation particularly in Edo State. This trend must stop. Rape of the girl-child is becoming alarming, we must do something about it.”
9 paraded for robbery
While parading another set of robbery suspects at the state police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Indabawa, said some of the suspects included those that attacked a member of the state House of Assembly last month.
