An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’
Court on Friday ordered that one Olushola Afolabi, 36, be remanded in
prison over the rape of a six-year-old girl in Ekiti.
The police prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel David, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 27 at about 4:20pm in Egbewa street, Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the accused on the said date unlawfully defiled a six–year-old girl, which led to her being hospitalised.
He said the offence was punishable under the provisions of the Child Right Laws, Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria.2006.
Emmanuel said he had sent the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The plea of the accused was not taken, while his counsel, Mr Kayode Akinwumi, sought for an adjournment till the outcome of the DPP’s advice.
The Magistrate, Mr Idowu Ayenimo, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending the advice of the DPP and adjourned the case to Feb. 28 for further hearing.
