Two female students of the Osun State University (UniOsun) were
allegedly raped at the weekend while several male students were
brutalised by hoodlums who stormed their hostels located outside the
Osogbo Main Campus of the university.
The hoodlums numbering about 12 were said to have invaded the students area situated at Oke Baale, Suzzy Hotel area of Osogbo, Sunday night and carted away the students’ belongings while male students who did not possess valuable items were beaten severely.
Sources said the hoodlums who were armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons carried out their ungodly acts simultaneously in about three different hostels in the area.
It was gathered that the hoodlums perpetrated the act at Diamind Hostel and Marvellous Hostel among others in a location close to the main campus, where they carted away items including laptops, phones, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money among other valuable items.
The injured students were said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, some concerned students on Monday took to the Osogbo Main Campus to protest the incident, lamented that it was not the first in the recent past and challenged the school management to find a lasting solution.
Assistant Registrar, Corporate Affairs of the institution, Mr Marcus Awobifa, who confirmed the incident, said security agencies had been alerted of the development.
