An Apapa Senior Magistrates’
Court in Lagos on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of N100,000 each to
three men charged with alleged rape of a 19-years-old girl.
The accused, Kehinde Adeleye, 52; Taiwo Afees, 31; and Ganiyu Ibrahim, 25, all of No. 5, Tieda St., off Alayabiagba, Ajegunle, Lagos, are facing a two-count charge of rape and conspiracy.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr M. Owumi, granted the accused bail and ordered them to produce two sureties who must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
He also ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of each of the accused.
Earlier, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Umeh Kalu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 27 at about 7.45 p.m. at No. 5, Tieda St., off Alayabiagba, Ajegunle, a Lagos suburb.
He said that the accused lured their victim into a room where they had carnal knowledge of her one after the other.
The accused were caught by neighbours when the victim began to cry for help while being raped by the accused.
Kalu said that the victim and the neighbours later reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the accused.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 258 and 410 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 258 says any man who has unlawful sexual intercourse with a woman or girl, without her consent, is guilty of the offence of rape and liable to imprisonment for life.
Section 409 prescribes a two-years imprisonment for conspiracy.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the accused were remanded at Kirikiri prison pending the time they would perfect their bail conditions.
The case was adjourned to March 10 for further hearing.
