Court remands driver for alleged rape of 2 women in Abuja

An Abuja High Court on Wednesday remanded a driver, Olando Ibrahim, charged with alleged rape of two women in Kuje Medium Prison, pending his bail application.

Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi, gave the order, after the prosecuting counsel, Mr Adam Osu, prayed the court not to admit the accused to bail.

Oniyangi adjourned the case to Feb. 26.

Earlier, during arraignment, the prosecution told the court that on Sept. 29, 2013, Ibrahim, 25, and one other, now large, in Mpape, Abuja, raped two women in their neighbourhood.

He said that the accused also stole the women's cell phones.

The prosecution said that the offence contravened Section 97 of the Penal Code and if convicted, the accused risks 14 years imprisonment.

Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to the charge
